A painting of a white clad house captured in brilliant summer sunshine. "A Sunny House" - Acrylic on canvas by John Stoyles

Painting of a sunlit white clad house

A Sunny House

The height of summer in Vermont. The yard is wild and thick with growth, trees heavy with leaves. The sun bakes down and the white boards of this old New England house bask in another glorious summer day,  their wooden lines pulled and twisted by the hot and cold of the seasons. Surfaces thick with years of paint are hot to the touch, exposed faces squint white with highlight and glare. Under eaves and sills shadows ripple across the textures of the house, their cover bringing shaded relief to doors and windows.

This is a picture you can bask in. Looking into the painting, you can almost feel the warmth of the day and the hot summer sun overhead. It is a picture of the senses, hear the buzz of bees, the songs of summer birds.
